The Port of Hampton Roads , Va. is one of the largest ports on the East Coast, offering one of the principal coal exporting facilities in the world. A hub for international trade, over 75 international shipping lines call at Norfolk and the surrounding ports of Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Newport News, Yorktown and other outlying terminals. McAllister has been in the port of Hampton Roads for roughly fifty years, serving Yorktown , Piney Point, Hampton Roads, Norfolk , and the Chesapeake area with unsurpassed towing and general harbor assist work.
Captain Elliott Westall joined the McAllister family in 1997 after a distinguished 20 year career in the US Navy where he served primarily as Tug Captain and Harbor Pilot. Captain Westall was selected as the first General Manager of Chesapeake Energy Services, where he directed McAllister's LNG operations at Cove Point, MD. After developing and implementing the operations at Cove Point and successfully leading the vetting and certification process, Captain Westall returned to McAllister Towing of Virginia as their Operations Manager. In June of 2007, he was appointed General Manager. Captain Westall along with Captain Douglas, Captain Fabian and the entire team in Virginia continue to work earnestly and safely to promote McAllister's reputation as the leader of unsurpassed service in marine transportation.
William Douglas first came aboard McAllister in 1980, starting as a mate and rising to Captain. From 1987 until he accepted the general manager's position, he was one of McAllister's front-line docking pilots and the President of the Docking Pilots Association.
Captain Dean Fabian retired from the Navy after 24 years as a Chief Warrant Officer, during which he served as Captain of the YTB-833, now the Daniel McAllister, as a Navy Harbor Pilot at Little Creek Amphibious Base and as Ship’s Bos’n aboard the USS NASSAU LHA-4. He first joined the McAllister team in 2005 serving as Mate on the Mary L. McAllister and then as Captain of the M/V Chesapeake Energy at Cove Point MD. He rejoined McAllister in July 2007 as Operations Manager for the Port of Virginia.
